Paper Submission Instructions and Guidelines

The ACM Minneapolis Professional Chapter cordially invites you to submit your original research to the Colloquium on Analytics, Data Science, and Computing (CADSCOM). This first annual Colloquium will be held on October 26-27 in Minneapolis, MN. CADSCOM 2018 will feature keynotes, panelists, and peer-reviewed paper presentations. Due to generous contributions from our sponsors, we are able to launch CADSCOM 2018 with no registration fee for researchers and attendees.

Organizations are seeking to harness data to improve decision-making, foment innovation, and discover insights. The purpose of CADSCOM is to promote and disseminate novel and cutting-edge ideas that can improve the understanding of concepts, challenges, opportunities, and technology related to real-world data projects. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Big Data Applications: novel applications of big data in sciences, management, engineering, humanities, social sciences, healthcare, retail, finance, education, manufacturing, transportation, and other domains
  • Business Management and Strategy: Applications of advanced analytics in business and organizational operations, management and governance.
  • Emerging Tech: blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous vehicles
  • Data Analytics: concepts and techniques of data visualization, statistical theories and applications, predictive models and applications, geo-spatial analytics
  • Data Ethics: Customer privacy and ethical issues and solutions, implications of black box algorithms, social implications for big data analytics
  • Data Infrastructure and Computing: cloud and high-performance computing, big data systems and models, software techniques and grid architecture, parallel, graph, and in-memory computing, containerization, data streams
  • Data Management: data modeling, relational and NoSQL databases, distributed databases, best practices in data collection, ingestion, extraction, integration, and cleaning, data governance frameworks, data strategy
  • Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence: learning models, transfer learning, text and social media analytics, natural language processing, deep learning, image and speech recognition, ML models, ML as a Service
  • Security: Data confidentiality, integrity, and availability, encryption algorithms

Abstract and Paper Submission

Abstract: Faculty, students, and professionals are encouraged to submit abstracts for oral presentations without publication during the Colloquium. Abstracts will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis, and no later than September 22, 2018. Submit a 2-page abstract that describes the research problem, methodology, conclusions, and references. Download the ACM-Format Sample Paper as a guide HERE (this is an easy to use document that abides by the ACM submission guidelines at www.acm.org/publications/authors/submissions).
DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME OR ANY IDENTIFYING INFORMATION IN THE DOCUMENT to facilitate a double-blind review, and we will track submissions using a submission record number.

Full Paper and Proceedings: Once your abstract is accepted, you will be added to the Colloquium program and will present on October 27.  Additionally, if your abstract is accepted, you are invited to submit your full ACM-formatted manuscripts (limited to 7 including references) for publication in the 1st volume of the official Proceedings of the 2018 Colloquium by November 1.  The full paper must be submitted using the ACM format. Important Policies

  • For each accepted abstract, at least one author must attend the Colloquium to present the paper. 
  • The author(s) must take full responsibility for the entire content of their paper.
  • All submissions will go through a blind peer review process.
  • Submitted papers will be evaluated based on their clarity, quality, potential impact, and reproducibility.
